Deep South - Offshore Charters

The very fertile waters of the Cape hold huge amounts of tuna and other pelagic fish these include Yellowfin Tuna of over 100kg and although relatively rare huge marlin.

The average offshore charter starts at around 6am or just before sunrise, the tuna grounds are situated approximately 25nm South West of Cape Point, it is for this reason that we try leave the harbour as early as possible so that we can have the maximum amount of time to try and catch a trophy fish.

After the long run and when the signs are right we will start trolling to locate the fish by either getting a strike on one of the lines or seeing the fish on the echo sounder. Once there is a sign of fish we will stop the boat and try catch fish using bait.

Watching these fish swim underneath your boat can make even the most seasoned angler shake with anticipation. The targeted species is the Large Yellowfin tuna which are normally between 45kgs and 70kgs. These fish are exceptionally strong and anyone wishing to land one of these brutes has to really work for it. We also catch Longfin tuna of up to 35kgs but they are normally closer to 10kgs and although a lot smaller you will be amazed at there ability to fight.

We also encounter large numbers of Blue and Mako sharks which are beautiful to look at but are not normally targeted. There is also a variety of pelagic birds which will intrigue those who have an interest in bird watching.

There are also many different types of whales and dolphins that come to look for food in these waters. We normally start heading home around 2pm and aim to be back in the Yacht club around 4pm where we can weigh and photograph your catch and clean any fish you might wish to take home with you.
